Groups, Pages and experts

Communities and official pages.

What is the difference between public and private groups?

Public group: anyone can join right away. Private group: you ask to join and an admin approves, and only members see the messages and the member list.

Who runs a group?

The owner can do everything: choose admins, make the group public or private, pass it on and delete it.

The owner gives each person their own permissions: adding friends, removing members, approving requests, changing the name and description, removing messages. Press Manage group in the chat to do all this.

Someone removed from a group can only come back if an admin adds them again. If the owner leaves, an admin takes over, or else the longest-standing member.

How are groups moderated?

Group messages are filtered automatically to block violent and explicit content. Group messages are not end-to-end encrypted.

What does the expert badge mean?

An expert Page gets the badge only after its owner submits a degree or professional licence and the Why team checks it by hand. The degree, issuer and year are shown publicly; the licence number isn't.
