Privacy
You decide who sees what.
Which audiences can I choose?
- Public: everyone on Why.
- Friends: only your friends.
- Close friends: friends you starred on the Friends page.
- Family: friends you marked with the house on the Friends page.
- Only me: nobody else.
Close-friend and family labels are visible only to you. People don't know which circle they're in.
How do I change who can see a post I already published?
Press the audience icon next to the time on your post and pick a new one. It applies immediately.
Can I hide my email, phone number and birthday?
Go to Settings → Privacy. Each detail (date of birth, country, email, phone number, friend list) has its own audience.
By default your email, phone number and date of birth are "Only me". Hidden details are never sent to other people's browsers.
Your username (@…) and display name are always public so people can find you.
What happens when I block someone?
You no longer see each other anywhere: profiles, posts, comments, search, messages, groups and notifications. Friendship and follows between you are removed.
See and unblock people in Settings → Blocked people.
Who can re-share my posts?
Only public posts can be re-shared to a profile or Page. Posts for friends, close friends, family or only you cannot be re-shared. Others can only send the link, and the recipient still needs to be in the audience you chose to see it.
Does Why sell data or show tracking ads?
No. Why does not sell your data and does not use ads that track you.
